The primary goals of the art program are to instill confidence in each student and to provide an environment that supports self-expression and creativity. Students discover art through the study of line, color, form, light, shadow, and composition. They experiment with different techniques using media such as crayons, pastels, watercolors, and acrylics.
Music
There are three goals for the students of the music program: to sing and play simple instruments; to create music; and to appreciate music. Students learn to use their voice as well as a range of percussion instruments to perform individually and as part of an ensemble for an audience in formal and informal settings. The students also learn to use their musical experience and imagination to generate sounds using a variety of media to create compositions that communicate specific ideas or moods. Students learn to identify various musical elements and concepts, and to make personal connections to music. In addition, students also learn to read basic traditional and non-traditional notation.
Dance
Children naturally move in response to music, sounds and situations. In dance class, students learn to convey feelings or emotions through movement, recognize different types and purposes of dance, master different techniques, patterns and steps, and watch and perform different forms of dance.
