Teachers assess students by selecting or designing methods of assessment appropriate to the desired learning outcomes. Teachers also take into account the diverse, complicated and sophisticated ways that individual students use to develop and demonstrate their understanding.

The primary objective of assessing students’ learning and performance is to give feedback to:
‧    Students — to encourage lifelong learning and metacognitive development
‧    Teachers — to support their reflection on what to teach and how to teach it
‧    Parents and guardians — to highlight their child’s learning and development.
Students are assessed in most subjects in both English and Chinese, as appropriate. The following assessment tasks and tools are employed by our teachers:

Assessment tasks may include:
‧    Open-ended investigations
‧    Organized discussions and debates
‧    Hands-on experiments
‧    Writing
‧    Reflections
‧    Portfolio presentations
‧    Student-led conferences

Assessment tools may include:
‧    Rubrics
‧    Benchmark and exemplars
‧    Checklists
‧    Anecdotal records
‧    Continuums
‧    Portfolios
