startalk starWhat are the dates for the 2017 YHIS-Startalk and when can I apply?
The 2017 YHIS-Startalk will be held from June 26 to July 14. There are no classes on July 4. The application starts now and will close on April 18. That is, all applications must be postmarked on or before April 18, 2017.
startalk starHow can I apply?
YHIS-Startalk requires students to complete an online application form ("Apply Now" button below). In addition, applicants will also need to submit via email their most recent progress report and two recommendation forms completed by their teachers, with one of them by their Chinese or foreign language teacher. The application is not complete and therefore will not be processed until such recommendation forms are received. Please email to obtain a copy of the recommendation form. We will consider all the applications and compare them and weigh them against each other, then choose those students we think would be the most successful in our program. For submission and/or questions, please email Michelle Tan at .
startalk starWhat is the cost of the YHIS-Startalk program?
The federal grant money that supports the YHIS-Startalk covers the full cost of the 3-week program, so it is free of charge for the participants. The program runs from 9 am to 3:30 pm daily. Participants can arrive at the program as early as 8 am with no extra charge. Participants who are not picked up at 3:30 pm will be automatically checked into the YHIS Summer Camp, held at the same location. The latest pick up time is 6 pm. A fee will be charged for staying at camp between 3:30 to 6 pm. Click here for the after-care fee schedule.
startalk starWhen will I know if I have been accepted?
Once the application period closes, we will make our decisions and notify students by April 28. Students on the waitlist will also be notified; several of the students from this list are usually accepted into the camp at a later date.
